Abstracts

Inspired by nature, architecture and interior spaces. The beautiful decay of paint on an old building, the color and patterns used in contemporary interiors and the exhilarating feeling you get when on top of a hillside or on the edge of a cliff by the sea. I hope to inspire you to slow down and see the world with new eyes and enjoy the moments that you may have overlooked.

I begin my paintings with dark color tones and quick brushstrokes. It’s a playful time for me and time to paint more intuitively. Dripping, scraping, stamping and drawing to create texture and patterns that sometimes only accidents can create. The process is an ebb and flow between adding and subtracting. Always being aware of keeping the energy of the brushstrokes and the energy of the painting moving. Towards the end the pace slows; changes become more considered and the colours become more refined, but I’m mindful to keep taking daring risks right until the end so the painting keeps that feeling of energy.

If you see a painting you love in this collection it may be available in my shop or on exhibit. Feel free to contact me for more information at alex@alexcolestudio.com.
