Who can attend?

Anyone! This retreat is designed to be entirely inclusive. However, due to the nature of the retreat, participants must be 18 years of age to participate. Additionally, participants may not bring animals of any sort.

Do I need to be a professional artist or writer to participate in the Forage Retreat?

Absolutely not! We have designed this retreat for anyone who feels called toward living a creative life and pursuing the joy that comes from the act of creation. It is for the beginner artist or writer to the professional one. Even someone who just dabbles with either medium every now and then. It’s our intent that anyone, no matter what their level of craft, can gain insight and inspiration from this retreat.

Do I need to bring painting or writing materials?

No. We will provide all the materials you need to create, just bring your ability to relax and play.

Does the retreat include meals?

Yes, and beautiful ones at that. Friday evening is a beautifully catered reception and private dinner at a private estate. Saturday includes a nourishing breakfast, a sit-down lunch at Alex Cole’s home, afternoon snacks and wine, and dinner at Valley on the Sonoma Square. Sunday, another nourishing breakfast, a sit-down lunch at Alex’s, and farewell afternoon snacks and wine.

What about dietary accommodations?

While most meals will be served in a family style nature, we can accommodate dietary allergies if they are provided in advance. Please let us know as soon as you are able. meghan@meghanmarshking.com

How many people will be at the retreat?

14 people, along with Alex and Meghan. We want to keep the retreat intimate, so we can all make better connections during and even after the retreat.

How do I get to the retreat?

The retreat will be held at Alex Cole’s Sonoma Valley home and studio. Once you sign up we will send you a full itinerary, including directions and addresses for the beautiful places where we will gather.

What do I wear?

Evening dinners—let’s dress up!

Daytime: comfortable clothes and shoes. We will go for a light morning walk and spend the day painting, writing, and relaxing. Aprons will be provided. Bring layers for the morning walk and sun protection for lunches al fresco.

Is lodging included?

No, we don’t provide lodging but we have put together a list of some of our favorite spots and have been able to get discounts for our retreat participants.

Handicap accessible?
Unfortunately, the workshop is not wheelchair accessible on Friday evening, as the dinner on the first night is on the second floor. The rest of the workshop is outside and could be accessed by wheelchair. Please contact alex@alexcolestudio.com for further inquiry.

What happens if I have to cancel?

See cancellation, refund policy and terms of conditions here.

Do I need to be vaccinated to attend?

No, vaccination is not required, but we do recommend that you do a home test before the workshop so that we can all keep each other healthy.

What about weather during the retreat?

Most of the retreat will be held outdoors under canopy or sun shade. Much like our creative impulses, all events proceed rain or shine. In the event of rain, the Forage team will arrange for shelter.
